Pablo Zabaleta will be kissing a new City badge soon.
Manchester City have confirmed that the club will start proceeding into
changing their badge after overwhelming support from the supporters.
Last month we brought you the news that
City had invited their supporters down to a string of consultation
meetings that would lasted four weeks, asking their fans to fill out a
questionnaire to discover whether or not they believed it was time for a
resigned.
‘The badge is the most visual representation of Manchester City and is so central to our heritage,’ commented chief executive officer Ferran Soriano at the time.
‘We are looking for our fans to share their views as to what they
consider to be the most authentic symbols of the Club. The views of our
Cityzens are essential to the process; they will have a real say on the
future of our badge.’
The club have now confirmed that after much deliberation, that
supporters have asked the club to revert the badge back to a circular
design similar to the one used in earlier years of the club’s history.
Manchester City’s original badge was the city’s crest (left) before moving to a circular design.
‘Having analysed all responses received, the Club can confirm that
there is an overwhelming desire amongst Cityzens for the badge to evolve
and that a round design, as used in two of the Club’s three previous
crests, is by far the most popular shape and remained so throughout the
consultation process,’ a statement read.
Kevin Parker, General Secretary of the Manchester City FC Supporters Club, said:
City’s current badge (right) says ‘Pride in Battle’ in Latin.
‘I am delighted that the Club consulted with the fans about our most
important symbol. It is impressive that they canvassed our opinions on
this matter and that they want to reflect our feedback in the ultimate
design.
‘On a personal note, while the Eagle badge will rightly live on in
fans’ hearts, minds and on football kits for all that it has come to
symbolise over the years, I am pleased that we will once again see the
round design which has twice featured in our past badges.’
