The Imo State Police Command has arrested no fewer than 50 suspected
members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign States of
Biafra over the pro-Biafra protests that rocked most of the South East
states last weekend.
The State Police Public Relation Officer, (PPRO) Andrew Enwerem, (DSP) who confirmed this yesterday however, said those arrested were 31. He said that 10 out of those detained were arrested last week Friday during the nationwide protest embarked upon by the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), while the remaining 21 were arrested on Monday.
Enwerem further disclosed that police arrested the 21 members of IPOB along Wetheral road, Owerri with insignias of Biafra, just as he also explained that the protesters barricaded roads causing gridlock.
“They were arrested with different kinds of Biafra flag, vest and uniforms, chanting pro-Biafra slogans and causing nuisance on the road.”
Although, he claimed that some of the arrested pro-Biafra protesters have been released on bail but reliable source revealed that over 30 are still being detained in the police custody.
It would be recalled that security agents in the state had taken a pre-emptive measure to thwart the planned protest of members of IPOB.

Court strikes out suit seeking prosecution of Goodie Ibru
The suit instituted by a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), Civil
Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC), seeking for an order of
mandamus to compel the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)
to begin the prosecution of Mr. Goodie Ibru, the elder brother to the
late Publisher of the Guardian Newspaper, Alex Ibru has been struck out.
The suit which was filed before the Federal High Court , Lagos, was struck out by Justice Ibrahim Buba for lack of diligent prosecution.
The NGO had in its motion on notice filed before the court sought for an order of mandamus directing the EFCC to furnish it with the investigation report on the allegations of impersonation, fraud, obtaining money by false pretence and stealing alleged against Ibru and one, Sunday Akinsanya (both Directors of IHL Services Ltd).
When the matter was called yesterday, there was no legal representation for the NGO and the EFCC.
However, a new twist was introduced to the case as another group known as the ‘Incorporated Trustees of Civil Society Network Against Corruption’, stormed the court with an application seeking to be joined as a co-defendant in the matter.
In its motion on notice, the group claimed that it has come to the court to protect its corporate name from unauthorized used and impersonation.
It said the ‘Civil Society Network Against Corruption’, does not have its consent and authority to institute the action in the first place.
The party seeking to be joined further claimed that it is the legal person duly registered with the name with which the suit was filed and that it is the only one entitled to maintain any action.
Justice Buba while expressing his displeasure at the lack of legal representation for both CSNAC and EFCC struck out the suit.
He advised party seeking to be joined as co-defendant in the matter to file a fresh suit to ventilate their grievances.
