BREAKING: Judge Absent & Legal Brouhaha Disrupts Kanu’s Arraignment

Paschal Nnawunezi       Monday, 18 January 2016

The re-arraignment of the leader of the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu was stalled today, January 18 over disagreement of a legal representative.
Controversy set in when a new lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor appeared to represent the incarcerated IPOB leader.
Ejiofor was said to have been contracted by the father of Kanu’s wife contrary to the family’s agreement on a legal representative. However, Kanu and the judge over his case John Tsoho never made an appearance in court despite heavy security presence.

Since the inception of the various allegations against Kanu by the Nigerian government, Vincent Obetta has been representing the IPOB leader.
Although, Obetta did not counter the claims that there was an issue on who would represent his client, he however said his team had received a wrong date for Kanu’s re-arraignment.
He also said that a later date will be given and made known to the public as soon as possible. Kanu has been under the custody of the State Security Services since his arrival from the United Kingdom.

He is alleged to have been involved in terrorism and terrorism funding, possession of firearms and management of an unlawful society in Nigeria.
